10 Movies Like 27 Dresses

Having to wear one or two bridesmaid dresses can seem like a nightmare, but being a bridesmaid at 27 weddings really seems like an insane idea. To make matters worse for Jane, the woman she is going to be a bridesmaid for is her sister. The man is her boss and the guy that she has been secretly in love with. For viewers of this hilarious, heart breaking and uplifting film, there are several other movies that will interest you.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding

For an immensely humorous and intensely amusing film, you cannot afford to miss My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Out of every romance that I have ever seen, this is one of my top ten favorites. It features, Toula, an awkward young woman who wants to do more in life than work at her family’s Greek restaurant. Her family wants her to marry another Greek, but she ends up falling for a teacher that she meets outside of her aunt’s travel agency. While her family learns to accept Ian, she must learn how to fight the expectations of her family to be the person that she was meant to be.

A Room With a View

A Room With a View is really fresh and completely unique. In the movie, Lucy goes on a tour of the beautiful city of Florence with her cousin, Charlotte. While she is abroad, she ends up encountering the amusing, outgoing Emerson and his attractive son, George. Although she ends up breaking all of the rules of etiquette, Lucy ends up kissing George in a cornfield. Since her cousin spots the romantic tryst, Lucy is unfortunately sent back to the dreary world of Surrey, England. She is engaged to a fairly unsatisfying gentleman. If you want to see how this film ends, you will have to watch it yourself.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

After an intense breakup, have you ever wished that you could just erase every memory of the relationship? In Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, that is exactly what happens. Clementine erases all of her memories of Joel. When he finds out, he does the exact same thing. During the beginning of the movie, they meet and are instantly attracted to each other. Unfortunately, they do not realize that they were actually dating until extremely recently. This film is both pessimistic and heart-warming at once. The plot line is unusual, and it still demonstrates how precious love and our memories really are.

Grease

Filmed back in 1978, Grease is one of the most romantic, classic movies of all time. Set in 1950s America, it follows the story of bad boy, Danny and good girl, Sandy. After meeting at the beach, Sandy and Danny fell in love. The summer romance ended until Sandy unexpectedly transferred into his school. What she does not realize is that Danny is no longer the loving, caring guy that she met at the beach. Everything that happens in this romantic musical is very familiar to most people. If you have never, ever seen Grease, you should drop whatever you are doing and go watch it now. This is one of those classics that you cannot miss, so make sure that you see it!

Maid in Manhattan

Directed by Wayne Wang, Maid in Manhattan stars Ralph Fiennes and Jennifer Lopez. Lopez plays the character of a maid who spends most of her days working as a maid. In a brief moment of levity, she ends up trying on an outfit of a socialite who was staying at the hotel. While she is dressed up, she is spotted by Ralph Fiennes’ character who is a senator. The senator thinks the maid is a wealthy woman and falls in love. Although the acting is less than stellar, the resulting story line is enjoyable to watch and is a great way for you to forget any of your own romantic misgivings.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

This movie is hilarious, but some of the moments are so awkward that you just want to shield your eyes. It stars the lovely Kate Hudson and gorgeous Matthew McConaughey. In the movie, Andie (Kate Hudson) is supposed to write an article for her magazine about how to lose a guy in ten days. Ironically, Benjamin (Matthew McConaughey) just made a bet with his friend that he could make a woman fall in love with him in just ten days. As fate would have it, the couple soon meets at a bar and the hilarity that ensues is worth renting the movie for.

The Ramen Girl

I had the misfortune of discovering Brittany Murphy after she passed away. Her romantic comedies remain some of my favorites, and it is unfortunate that a talent like her is gone. In the Ramen Girl, you get a woman who leaves to Japan with her boyfriend who promptly deserts her in Tokyo. She ends up apprenticing with a ramen chef and learning the trade. Honestly, the script is less than stellar and the directing is just adequate. The star power of Brittany Murphy is what really pulls this movie together and makes it into a heart-warming film to watch.

Freaky Friday

Based off the book of the same name, Freaky Friday is a story of what happens when a mother and daughter accidentally switch bodies. They gain a better understanding of each other and a sense of mutual respect after living in each others’ bodies for a while.

Strictly Ballroom

Directed Baz Luhrmann, Strictly Ballroom is as good (or better!) than his other films: Moulin Rouge or Romeo & Juliet. Baz also wrote the screenplay and is responsible for the idea of taking a champion dancer who seeks out a new partner. Scott has a unique, unorthodox style that shocks and offends the ballroom dancing community, so he struggles to find a fellow misfit to join him. Meeting the right woman, he shows that anything is possible.

Runaway Bride

Romantic comedies are always better if Julia Roberts is in them. Starring the esteemed Roberts and Richard Gere, Runaway Bride follows the tale of Maggie Carpenter. Maggie has left her groom at the alter three times. This impressive track record caused Hale, a journalist, to write about it. After Maggie complained about factual issues in the news story, Hale is fired. He decides to track Maggie again to see if she is going to be a runaway bride again and hopefully get his job back. As you most likely guessed, the marriage with Maggie’s current boyfriend is unlikely to go through because there is an instant attraction between Hale and Maggie.
