Editor’s Pick: Ecco Bella’s Creamy, Pigmented, All-Natural Lipsticks
A few months ago, I told you about about the great range of organic lipsticks from Nūdus Australia.
Right after that, Ecco Bella reached out to see if I'd like to give their FlowerColor Lipsticks a test-drive, too.
And now I'm happy to announce that I've discovered ANOTHER great all-natural lipstick line!
Actually, I was way more surprised that I liked the Ecco Bella lippies. They're a brand I've seen over the years at health food stores, and compared to the sleek chic Nūdus white packaging, theirs is somewhat boring:
I also won't lie… I was afraid these lipsticks would be the typical health food store nightmare of overly brown tones, weird shimmers and awkward textures. You know, the kind of makeup that turns people off natural makeup altogether!
Thankfully, these are not like that at all.
I tried five out of the 17 shades, and they are all SO nice! Very modern colours, and with a lovely balm-like feel, as well.
Before I show them to you, let's take a quick peek at the ingredients:
Castor oil, isopropyl palmitate (from coconut), candelilla wax, 100iu Vitamin E, organic calendula oil, organic chamomile oil, organic jojoba oil, flower wax coated iron oxides. Pink colours contain carmine.
Nice and short, just how I like it! Of note, these lipsticks are free of fragrances, gluten, FD&C dye and petroleum. Most of them are also vegan.
Let's look at the colours!
Rosewood
Rosewood is a very muted brownish-pinkish red. I would never have picked this up on my own, but gosh, I like it a lot! This would be flattering on any skin tone and is perfect for those days when you want a little somethin'-somethin' on your lips, but don't need a full-blown, attention-getting red. The texture is just perfect.
Peach Frost
Peach Frost is a soft, flattering peachy-nude. There is no frost, so don't worry! I love my peach lipsticks, so this is the colour I was most excited about, and it did not disappoint. The texture of this one is a little thicker, which makes it opaque enough to show up over your natural lip colour. The only thing is, it had a bit of an “off” smell, so I think I must've received an older sample. (None of the others had any detectable scent at all.) The company promised to send me a new replacement, but it never came…
Merlot
Merlot is a deep violet-berry. Definitely the most dramatic of the bunch here! However, because the texture is quite sheer, it gives your lips almost a stained, “just bitten” effect instead of looking heavy and lipsticky. I'd wear this for evening… it's one of the nicest, most wearable purples I've seen.
REDvelation
REDvelation is a classic, true red that would work on any complexion. This one packs a lot of pigment and is perhaps not quite as sheer as some of the others; the texture is beautifully creamy. If you like reds, you'll love it! Note: This shade is not vegan.
Pink Rose
Pink Rose is a light-to-medium pink with yellow undertones. Like I always say, yellow-based pinks are very hard to come by, even with mainstream makeup brands—so for there to be a natural offering is pretty exciting! This shade just makes me happy; it gives your face a fun pop of colour but still isn't super-bright. Note: This one is also not vegan.
Conclusion
For around $20 each, these are a pretty spectacular find. If you are looking for natural ingredients, a modern colour selection and lightweight, comfortable, lip balm-esque textures, you will be really impressed!
