Billboard Music Awards 2016: The Best Celebrity Beauty Looks on the Red Carpet
Hot on the heels of the Cannes Film Festival and amfAR Gala comes the annual Billboard Music Awards. (Three red carpets in a row—we're spoiled for celeb inspo right now!)
This one may not have the chic beachy beauty vibes we enjoyed in France, but there's still lots to see here!
Rihanna
What I love: Rihanna's greenish eyes look so beautiful in this soft brown smoky eye with black liner along the upper lash line. Love that she went for natural lashes; the brown tone of her lipstick matches the eyeshadow and makes this feel modern (not boring). I always did love the bob on her best, so happy to see it return! What I'd change: Just brushing out her waves a tad.
Ciara
What I love: Ciara's bangs! The length, thickness, colour and longer side pieces. Between this and her cool Met Gala look, she is killing it lately in the hair department! The soft makeup's great, too. What I'd change: Is bottom lip liner the new false lashes? I think so.
Lucy Hale
What I love: Lucy's flawless skin, and how her purple eyeshadow is a nod to the matching dress. I think it works because the shadow is very sheer and well-blended, with lots of lashes and feathery brows. (LOVE her brows!) What I'd change: Nothing.
Kesha
What I love: Kesha's new haircut—the blonde colour, choppy bangs and wavy texture really flatter her. (Here's the last time we saw her. The bangs are better, right?) I also love her freckles and natural brows. The lashes are semi-okay since they're fluffy, and this is a music awards show, after all. What I'd change: Who doesn't have lip injections in Hollywood now? Does she have to be so obvious about it?
Jessica Alba
What I love: Jessica took a risk with this bold blue shadow in a dramatic shape, but I think it's working! (And if anywhere is the right place to wear it, this is it.) Her skin and brows look good, and she was wise to put her hair up and keep the makeup neutral. What I'd change: Nothing.
Mila Kunis
What I love: Mila has fantastic lids for eyeshadow, and this iridescent mauvey taupe is such a unique shade. I like her in an updo for a change. What I'd change: The shadow could be a little more diffused at the edges.
Zendaya
What I love: Zendaya's impossibly shiny, straight hair. That is hair commercial hair. What I'd change: Her brows are getting to me now… apparently these are known as #kelleybakerbrows. Too aggressive for my taste!
Halsey
What I love: I find Halsey refreshing in general because she has her own style—the short hair, the freckles, the au naturel brows. Peach is a great lipstick shade on her. What I'd change: I don't particularly like this pair of false lashes (too spindly), and something is wonky on one eye—is that the strip lifting up?
Priyanka Chopra
What I love: The contrast of Priyanka's low-key hair and makeup with the bright, low-cut dress. Specifically, I like her undone hair and the soft colour on her lips. What I'd change: Her brows—I'd make them softer instead of so sharp and angular. I guess I can live with the false lashes at her outer corners.
Kate Beckinsale
What I love: Kate's shimmering, gold-rimmed eyes. So many people think you have to wear heaps of lashes and dark shadow/liner to “stand out”—but this is proof that a subtle eye look can be more interesting. Her undone updo is pretty. What I'd change: Some feathering to even out the brow tails might be nice.
Kelly Rowland
What I love: Kelly's off-the-face hairdo. It looks effortless, like she just pushed it back out of the shower. I am also marvelling at her lovely teeth! What I'd change: More natural lashes.
Meghan Trainor
What I love: Meghan's purple eyeshadow. I'm impressed at how well she pulled it off, and how nice it makes her eyes look—she really has pretty eyes! What I'd change: She put extensions back in, and they look a few inches too long (and need brushing!). I also wish her lipstick didn't have such a hard edge.
Demi Lovato
What I love: Demi's freckles. Always. Her hair also looks pretty here; very fluffy. What I'd change: This is way too much eye makeup, in my opinion, and whatever “contouring” is going on with the lip finish is overdone. She is so pretty—she doesn't need so much!
Keke Palmer
What I love: Keke's top knot with bangs (always an adorable combo), and the fact that she went so natural with her lashes. What I'd change: I still wish her bangs were longer—just below the brows would be ideal. I also find this makeup on the dry, matte side. Even a brighter lip with a creamy texture would help.
Heidi Klum
What I love: Heidi's beachy waves—and that she skipped white eyeliner in her waterlines! Will wonders never cease. What I'd change: Does anyone really need to wear bottom false lashes? Come on.
Rebecca Romijn
What I love: Rebecca's soft, fluffy, vintage-inspired waves. I think her colour is quite good also—blonde but not too blonde. What I'd change: Nothing.
Laura Marano
What I love: Laura's skin is sooo beautiful. I dream of having this skin! What I'd change: We'd appreciate her skin even more if she didn't distract us with so much harsh black eyeliner. I'd also like to see her hair a few inches shorter, brushed-out and without the highlights. Imagine the contrast of that creamy skin against dark brunette hair!
Ariana Grande
What I love: Nothing. (Sorry Ariana.) What I'd change: Is she STILL doing this ponytail? She's too young to fall into such a beauty rut already. And her makeup is so dry, there's just no life here! The greyish matte overdrawn lips are a trend that needs to die now.
Britney Spears
What I love: Even though Britney looks cray, you still kind of love her, right? That is the appeal of Britney. What I'd change: I'm getting Tanning Mom flashbacks. Obviously, her spray tan is way too dark for her hair (which is way too blonde) and her lipstick (way too light pink). And then black eyeliner and false lashes on top of that… oh my!
Who had your favourite (and least favourite) beauty looks on this red carpet?
