Can You Guess Which Drugstore Makeup Brand Shailene Woodley is Wearing?
So we know Shailene Woodley likes to forage for food, eat clay and sunbathe her vagina. (No, really.)
But she can also scrub up pretty nicely, as seen here at the New York premiere of her new film, The Fault In Our Stars. As you know, I haven't been a huge fan of her red carpet looks in the past, but wow—this is a good one! To set off her bright yellow strapless dress, she chose side-slicked hair with dewy, natural skin and pretty pink lips. See how great she looks?
There's a hint in that photo about one of the makeup brands she's wearing—a brand you can find at the drugstore. Yep, Physicians Formula; specifically, their Organic Wear collection. Did you know they make organic products? If they're good enough for Shailene…
She is also wearing products from Caudalie, 100% Pure, Koh Gen Do, Josie Maran and Tarte. Let's take a look at the close-up, and then the shades shall be revealed!
Looking much healthier and more radiant than at the MTV Movie Awards. Maybe there's a very slight Eagle situation here (light face; darker neck) but it's nothing bothersome, and I love how fresh this feels, even if she's on the shiny side of dewy. (It was probably boiling that night!) Fantastic brows, lashes and a great soft texture on the lips.
Here's how it came together:
The Skin
Makeup artist Roxy started by misting Caudalie Beauty Elixir all over her face, neck and décolletage to prep the skin for makeup. I LOVE this product; it's a facial mist that's part-toner and part-serum, and the scent alone is heavenly. You can use it over or under makeup, and on its own throughout the day to revive and refresh. See here for my article about the many wonderful applications for face mists.
Next, Roxy primed the skin with 100% Pure Luminous Primer, while it was still damp from the mist. This is a silicone-free primer with a jojoba oil and aloe vera base.
To perfect Shailene's skin, Roxy used Physicians Formula Organic Wear CC Cream in Light/Medium. This is a great CC cream, although it's too dark for my skin tone…
Very important: Roxy applied it with a brush (her Chanel Foundation Brush #6), starting at the centre of the face and blending out to the jaw line until it was seamless. I always recommend applying any face makeup with a brush instead of fingers, as you'll get a much nicer result.
To mattify, Roxy dusted Koh Gen Do Face Powder under the eyes and around her nose and mouth.
To add an earthy glow while giving subtle definition to her cheekbones, she brushed on Physicians Formula 100% Natural Origin Bronzer underneath the cheekbones and at the temples, using the Make Up For Ever Double Ended Sculpting Brush. This is a nice idea for the summer, and when you do a pop of colour on the lips—try swapping out your blush for a bronzer.
Next, since glowing skin was a major part of the makeup look, she applied Josie Maran Argan Illuminizer down the bridge of Shailene's nose, around the outer corners of her eyes, and above her brows in a C-shape manner.
The Eyes
Roxy started by priming the lids with Tarte Clean Slate 360° Creaseless 12-Hr Smoothing Eye Primer, a natural eyeshadow primer.
To keep things light, she skipped eyeshadow and went straight for Tarte Skinny SmolderEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner in Golden Tiger's Eye. (Love this colour!) She drew a thin tight line across the top lash line and along the bottom corners, and then smudged it out softly using the sponge tip.
Apparently Shailene prefers to apply her own mascara, so she jumped in next, and layered on two coats of Physicians Formula Organic Wear CC Curl + Care Mascara. This is a great option if you're looking for a natural mascara that isn't super-expensive.
Brows were kept natural, with feathery inner corners, and for this Roxy just brushed them into place with the Jane Iredale Deluxe Spoolie Brush.
The Lips
The final touch was Tarte Glamazon Pure Performance 12-Hour Lipstick in Playful, applied with a finger for an imperfect, lived-in look.
Here's the final look—I love this lipstick with the yellow dress!
I loved finding out which green makeup products actually met Shailene's approval, and this is the best she's looked all year! Your thoughts?
