From Cat Eyes to Red Lip Gloss: 33 of the Best Celebrity Beauty Looks Lately
With the InStyle Awards and the amfAR Gala, there's been tons of celeb beauty to gawk at lately—and here's some more! Gorgeous Léa Seydoux heads up this week's collection of the most inspirational looks, along with Emilia Clarke, Alison Brie and many more.
Here's the best in beauty this week:
Léa Seydoux
It doesn't get any better than this! Léa epitomizes my desired aesthetic of effortless, natural beauty with a few stylish extras. First of all, I LOVE her hair this way. I suppose it's Ombré, but the contrast isn't too sharp, and the straight, centre-parted lob proves that you don't need elaborate curls to look dressed-up. Next, let's talk about her skin and how dreamy it is. That's the reason she carries the thick black liner and even the false lashes (which are tasteful). They are surrounded by so much freshness, including the delicately flushed cheeks and barely-stained lips.
Our second Léa look is completely different. (Another reason to love her: she's so darn versatile!) Here, it's all about disco waves and a glam golden smoky eye, paired with nude lipstick. She looks amazing, of course, although I can't help but prefer the first one. When Léa plays up her beautiful complexion, it's the best.
Léa is wearing: 1. Eyeshadow in 90 Convoitise | 2. Eyeshadow in 95 Mirage
Emilia Clarke
Emilia is another big beauty crush of mine, also demonstrating the exact kind of hair and makeup that I love. Nobody looks better right now than her in the brunette lob! It's simple, it's not obviously highlighted, and I love the way she flipped it at the part. Her signature red lips and big brows are the focus of the makeup, against fresh skin, mascara and a hint of neutral shimmer on the lids.
Alison Brie
Alison has been looking extra-gorgeous as of late. What I like most is her skin texture, which looks “real” instead of makeuppy. I also appreciate that she plays up her eyes with tons of lashes instead of heavy eyeshadow or liner (which could overwhelm her face). I even don't mind these falsies too much. Her darkened brows aren't overly precise, and she kept the rest low-key with just pink gloss and a ponytail.
Naomie Harris
Naomie nailed it once again. We've been seeing her with sleek hair lately, but I really love these waves as well. They are all brushed out, and look touchable, not stiff. I wouldn't change a thing with her makeup, either. Black liner in her inner rims all the way around makes her eyes stand out, without having to resort to false lashes.
Camilla Belle
A more natural look for Camilla this week, where she let her signature brows frame her face instead of using tons of lashes/liner/eyeshadow. As per usual, her skin is insanely flawless, and I love the peach blush. The centre part and hair tucked behind both ears makes this feel polished.
Lily Collins
Another week, another photo of Lily in a dark, blackberry lipstick. I still like these Gothic tones on her, even though it would be nice if she mixed it up sometimes. What I don't get here are the lashes. With her big brows, there is no need. I also think she is also in one of those in-between awkward stages with her hair. Can't wait until it grows back into a full bob.
Olivia Munn
We should start a fund to help Olivia find her perfect brow pencil, because this matching issue is an ongoing one. (It's too red, am I right?) Other than that, I always love what she does for red carpet. Her glossy coral-pink lipstick is divine with her green eyes and freckles, and even though she's wearing false lashes, they don't compete for attention. I can't believe how long her hair is now!
Jessica Biel
Jessica isn't quite as glowy here as she looked last week, but this is still nice. This time, the makeup is more tawny, and her hair has more waves. I like that she didn't fill in her brows (at least not obviously), and the longer lashes at the centre of her eyes make her look wide awake.
In this pic, it definitely looks like Jessica has started dabbling with Restylane… too much, in my opinion! Probably it just needs to settle. Everything else is just gorgeous, however. I love the soft texture of her lips, seamless blush and subtle shimmer on her lids—all in the same understated rose.
Emmanuelle Chriqui
Emmanuelle is one of those rare beauties who look the best (in my opinion) with hair all sleek and slicked back. It really shows off her skin, and sparkly eyes. Too bad she used falsies—with the black waterlines and matching shadow, they were not needed here. Everything else is great, though.
Phoebe Tonkin
Phoebe is one to watch for sure! She is so gorgeous, and I'm swooning over what she did with her eyes: shimmery shadow almost to the brows, and jet-black liner in the waterlines. The “your lips, only better” lipstick balances the same tone on her eyelids and cheeks. I also like the flippy, slightly '60s ends of her hair.
Also so pretty. Here, Phoebe went for a more traditionally feminine look, with the focus on the flushed rose lipstick and matching cheeks, along with doll-like lower lashes. I think we often forget what a difference those little bottom lashes can make!
Christina Hendricks
I'm so happy to see Christina with shorter hair again. The long waves—last seen here—didn't suit her as well, in my opinion. (Maybe they compete with her chest, I don't know.) She's also back to red lipstick, which I love on her ultra-pale skin. The lashes are really great, too.
Kate Hudson
I like sporty Kate! This side braid looks far more youthful than the textured updo she had at the InStyle Awards. I also love her dark, chunky, natural lashes. Less makeup is always best on her, I think. The only thing I'd change here would be to make those loose pieces of hair more straight. Why are they so curled?!
Here's an example of what I like for Kate on the red carpet. She looks best with her hair all loose and straight, with a bit of texture through it. The makeup tones are all muted peaches. I think her false lashes work because they're similar in texture to real lashes, and the length is in the centre, which gives her eyes a lift.
Elle Fanning
We can always count on Elle to bring us something creative, and this week, she doesn't disappoint. She tried the new trend of wearing burgundy tones on the eyes, except in a very soft, sheer wash—and with no mascara! The same colour is echoed in her blush and lip gloss. With a flower barrette in her hair, the effect is very sweet and age-appropriate for a 17-year-old.
Monica Bellucci
I'm dying over Monica's hair—and, well, how great she looks in general (she is 51!). The gently parted Bardot bangs are just perfect with her wavy lengths. It's a definite style, but it doesn't look “done,” either. I also like her fresh skin and soft makeup, which includes her signature smudged black liner. Nothing feels harsh.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
After the high of the amfAR Gala, where Rosie had one of my favourite looks of 2015, this feels like a let-down. We're back to the heavy blush, black liner and false lashes. It's not that she doesn't look gorgeous—she does!—but it's just not as fresh. I much prefer her with less makeup.
Christina Milian
I ignore 90 percent plus of Christina's photos because her styling's not my taste. But when I saw this one, it was like, “Yes! Finally!” She chopped her hair into a bob, and it's the most adorable thing ever. Sure, the lashes are ridiculous, but we are definitely making progress here. Her skin and the rest of her makeup look very fresh, too.
Allison Williams
Are bottom false lashes becoming a thing? I remember being shocked to see them on Giuliana Rancic way back when (not that anything should shock me on her), but now I'm seeing them on more and more celebs. Including Alison here, who didn't need them at all. Her eye makeup is so busy already with the frosty white and metallic pink shadows. I'm also not a fan of the way obvious highlight above her Cupid's bow. That said, she's still very attractive in this ballerina-like beauty look.
Katharine McPhee
Katharine is a hottie lately! The less makeup she wears, the more I like it. This feels beachy and naturally sexy. It's good to see her in tousled waves, normal-looking lashes, fresh skin and a nice pop of pink on the lips.
Alicia Silverstone
Alicia looks amazing here, the best she has in a quite a while. I think her hair was darker (and duller) before? The honey blonde is much more complementary to her skin tone. The focus here is basically the green earrings, which are fabulous, and her loose “S” waves in a deep side part. I like the strong peach blush and matching lip gloss, with natural eyes. Excellent work!
Emily Deschanel
Emily is the elder Deschanel (she is 39), but looks fresher here than her little sister did last week. (And she had her second baby in June!) I adore her thick brows, and fringe of lashes with the subtle hint of purple liner underneath the lower lash lines. Then she went and paired that with a fuchsia lipstick. But it works! I just want to brush out her waves more.
Carla Gugino
Carla has found her Life Cut, and it is bangs with straight, mid-length hair. So cute on her, especially with the liner all the way around to bring out her green eyes. This whole look is so youthful (she is 44), and much better than all that green eyeshadow at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
Ariel Winter
A typical Ariel look for you—thick lashes, a sprinkling of freckles and something soft and glossy on the lips. I'm not in love with the lashes, but they're not terrible either. Her hair looks cute in the messy braid. Her chunky hair tie is cool also!
Sandra Bullock
Sandra looks younger with her hair down, and could also stand to wear less makeup, but I don't dislike this. The eye makeup is strong but doesn't feel harsh, and that peach lipstick is so pretty. Her skin is also in excellent condition, and hair looks very shiny (she is 51!).
Jennifer Garner
Jennifer's skin looks great, and I applaud her eye makeup (such a wonderful fringe of lashes, and subtle shading). I just wish she wouldn't leave a big ol' swipe of lip liner on her bottom lip. It doesn't make her lips look bigger. It just looks like she forgot to blend. I'm also not crazy about this hairstyle.
Hannah Simone
Hannah hasn't been in the red carpet photos since last year's SAG Awards, and I'm happy to report that she is looking much fresher. This is a way better updo (side bun?), and doesn't look like a bad prom hairstyle. I wish she'd skipped the lashes, but the pink stained lips and bold blush are both really pretty. She has lovely skin!
Sofia Vergara
Here's some classic Sofia; I guess it's too much to hope that she'd do anything different than her signature long waves and brick-coloured lipstick. Well, at least her skin is looking more natural and she is not so faux-tanned. Even though her hair colour is technically beautiful, I'm not sure I like her with the lighter hair. She seemed more striking as a dark, glossy brunette.
Reese Witherspoon
Reese is normally on point, so not sure what happened with her blush here. It's bordering on clown-like… but the rest of the hair and makeup saves it. I will always love her hair simple and straight—it reminds me of her famous 2006 post-breakup Oscars look with the bangs. She really has not aged.
Drew Barrymore
I thought you'd like to see this photo of Drew, since we rarely get to see her on any red carpets these days—even though it is not her best look by far. The orangey-red lipstick is stunning, and her complexion is also very nice, but I'm not into this hairstyle at all. How long has she been doing Ombré for? It's time to move on, Drew! I also think her face shape needs a side part, and shorter length.
Dita Von Teese
I'm including Dita because you know what? Even with her signature heavy burlesque makeup, she STILL looks cooler and fresher and more on trend than many celebs on the red carpet these days! We'll never see her with tacky contouring, strobing, etc. In fact, I really appreciate her intense attention to detail, and how perfectly she executes her retro-inspired beauty looks. Not that I want to see people doing this on the street every day, but her grooming is impeccable and so flawless!
