From Smoky Eyes to Pink Lip Gloss: 21 of the Best Celebrity Beauty Looks Lately

This edition of beauty inspiration is all about Film Festivals and Fashion Week parties!

That means casual summery looks are on the wane, and are being replaced by more autumn-ready hair and makeup. Think: smoky and shimmering eyeshadow, red lips and edgy eyeliner.

Here are the looks you need to see:

Penélope Cruz

What I like: Penélope's smoky eyes and smudgy liner. This kind of eye makeup always looks SO RIGHT on her—it's never overpowering. Loving the new, darker, shorter hair as well. Seriously, how is she so beautiful? What I'd change: Nothing.

Rachel Bilson

What I like: Rachel's pink gloss, green shadow and yes, even the messy hair! Haven't you missed her? She's still doing great things with her hair colour, but instead of Ombré, the highlights start just a few inches from the roots. What I'd change: This look doesn't need false lashes.

Rihanna

What I like: Rihanna's metallic yellow eyeshadow (actually a highlighter), with fluttery lashes and a high ponytail. It's even MORE mesmerizing in motion. Who else wants to wear yellow now? What I'd change: Nothing.

Rihanna is wearing: Highlighter in Trophy Wife

Reese Witherspoon

What I like: Reese is actually glowing here (and not from sweat or makeup!). I always like her in a red lip, and this side-swept updo is pretty cute. What I'd change: I would do less bronzer on the sides of her face.

Emma Stone

What I like: Emma's sparkly pink eyeshadow from lashes to brows. As if that weren't colourful enough, she added a red lip and combed her hair off her face. (The purple wall is making it all seem extra-bold.) What I'd change: I think the platinum blonde washes her out.

Jennifer Lawrence

What I like: Jennifer's super-smoky shadow. The blending is so expertly done, and the shape really lifts her eyes. It's a lot of product, but it works because the skin, lips and hair are so clean. What I'd change: Nothing.

Halle Berry

What I like: Halle's statement braid. She is doing SUCH interesting things with her hair these days! (Another example here.) As usual, the makeup is low-key and neutral. What I'd change: She's got that upper lip sweat going on, but hey—it's been hot in Toronto lately!

Hailey Baldwin

What I like: Hailey's graphic winged liner, all the way around her eyes. With her chiseled features, she wears it well! Also interesting is that it's a reddish black, not plain black. Feathered brows, nude lips and sleek hair complete the look. What I'd change: Nothing.

Kendall Jenner

What I like: Kendall's vintage-inspired wavy bob. I love this length on her! Notice how she's wearing long lashes on the upper lash lines only, but left her under-eyes bare. What I'd change: Her foundation seems too yellow, and her lips look so swollen (i.e. freshly injected!).

Ana de Armas

What I like: Ana's shimmering burgundy shadow, which is diffused softly all the way around her eyes. Black liner makes her eyes pop, but the rest (skin, lips, hair) is natural. What I'd change: This would be better sans false lashes, and I'd brush out the piecey waves.

Sara Sampaio

What I like: Sara's rich, vampy lipstick. It feels fresh because it's paired with sun-kissed skin and gelled-back hair. Plus, the rest of the makeup has a light touch. What I'd change: Nothing.

Sofia Richie

What I like: Sofia's matte pink lips, and natural eyes and brows. She has lovely skin! I thought I was over beachy, textured hair, but I really like her lob as well. What I'd change: Nothing.

Barbara Palvin

What I like: Barbara's bright red lipstick and big, supermodel waves. Her skin is SO fresh and glowy. I don't even mind the false lashes here. What I'd change: Nothing.

Elsa Hosk

What I like: Elsa's matte smoky eyes. See how she left her waterlines light? It looks so good, it's actually making me re-think my techniques! I also like the wavy hair at the shorter length. What I'd change: Nothing.

Irina Shayk

What I like: Irina's insanely smooth, flawless skin and au naturel brows. Look more closely, and you'll see some shimmering purple hugging her upper lash lines. Her long hair is all sleek and shiny, tucked behind both ears. What I'd change: What's the deal with her upper lip?!

Rachel McAdams

What I like: Rachel's wavy bob and soft, caramel colour. The berry lip stain is unexpected with a mint green gown—I like it! What I'd change: I don't like the eyeliner; it really closes up her eyes.

Margot Robbie

What I like: Margot's flipped-to-one-side hairstyle. This is a good length for her; better than long! I so appreciate that she did natural (albeit chunky) lashes, with liner that is almost becoming a reverse smoky eye. What I'd change: Nothing.

Ashley Benson

What I like: Ashley's charcoal smoky eyes with bits of aqua glitter. Once again, we're seeing the colour taken all the way around—plus natural brows! Take note. The pink lipstick is pretty, and her hair is similar to Margot Robbie's. What I'd change: Maybe a bit more powder between the brows, and around the nose.

Kate Bosworth

What I like: Kate's ballerina bun. Nobody else wears tight updos better! With a style like this, your skin has to be perfect, and it is. All she did was add a faint peach colour on lids, cheeks and lips. What I'd change: Nothing.

Cindy Crawford

What I like: Cindy's peach blush and lipstick. I love these tones on her, and that she doesn't look overly made up. She has incredible brows—and hair! It's still so thick and luxurious. What I'd change: I think she could do better on the false lashes… they should be more fluffy.

Martha Hunt

What I like: Martha's smudged reverse cat eyes and side-swept straight hair. Okay, her skin finish is shiny. But I still prefer a bare face over the heavy makeup masks we're used to seeing on some red carpets! What I'd change: More powder, obviously.
