Grammys 2023: The Best Celebrity Beauty Looks on the Red Carpet

Obviously, Beyoncé stole the show at last night's Grammy Awards. Her golden goddess look completely took over my Instagram feed:

That's from her makeup artist, by the way, and I hear he used this classic balm on top of Nude Fishnet to achieve those glossy, smoky lids. (Interview coming up with him SOON!)

Alas, we don't have a closer look because Bey didn't walk the red carpet… but I do have the beauty shots of all the celebs who did!

Keep scrolling for the best/worst hair and makeup looks of the night:

Rihanna

What I like: Rihanna looks so glam! She traded her blonde hair for this glorious reddish-brown mane with a centre part and fluffy texture. I love her makeup—sculpted smoky eyes, pinky-nude lips and flawless matte skin. She looks beautiful. What I'd change: Nothing.

Rihanna is wearing:Hair mask

Lady Gaga

What I like: Gaga's skin, oh my God! And she sleeps with makeup on; it's so unfair. I adore the hot pink lipstick, and I'm even okay with the messy “blorange” hair (for once, it looks like her own and not a wig). But then I HAD to know what was under those glasses…

It's a cat eye, featuring the first of many pink shadows on this red carpet! I have to say that I really like this new Lady Gaga—her looks are still dramatic, but now they seem more fashion-influenced, less campy. What I'd change: Nothing.

Lady Gaga is wearing: Foundation // Concealer // Bronzer in Tantric 102 // Blush in Lush & Libido // Eyeliner in Fine(wine) 47 // Eyeliner in Pink of Me 59 // Eyeliner in Peridot 90 // Eyeliner in Blacquer 42 // Eyeshadow in Leila 416 // Mascara in Noir // Lipstick in Boy Gorgeous 222

Jennifer Lopez

What I like: Speaking of good skin, Jennifer's is insane! I will remind you again that she is 47 years old. In the past, I've been critical of her heavy-handed makeup, but I'm nodding my head in approval at the soft lilac shadow, and absence of obvious contouring. The über-long, über-straight hairstyle looks fab with that neckline. What I'd change: I'm still not liking her choice of false lashes, nor the goopy lip gloss. Her upper lip is fuller than the lower one, which never used to be the case…

Jennifer is wearing: Serum // Moisturizer // Eye cream // Foundation in Natural Beige, Buff Beige and Sun Beige // Concealer/luminizer in 3 Light Peach // Contour // Powder // Bronzer in 100 and 200 // Blush in Soft Sand // Highlighter in Light // Eyeshadow in Nude 1 // Eyeshadow in Burst Into Bloom // Eyeshadow in Always Pearly Pink // Eyeshadow in Endless Pearl // Eyeshadow in 05 Modele // Eyeliner in 904 Black // Eyeliner in Bourbon // Mascara in Black // Brow pencil in Blonde and Brunette // Brow mascara in Ash Blond // Lip liner in 01 // Lipstick in JLo's Nude // Lip colour in Neverending Nutmeg

Adele

What I like: Adele's signature cat eyes. Notice how the liner is actually all the way around her eye instead of just on top, which makes it a little less retro. I love that peachy-pink lip colour on her. What I'd change: I was hoping we'd get to see her straight bob again, but alas, it's back to the ladylike updos that don't feel as youthful or fresh. The brows are too dark and drawn-on, and I don't think she needs this much contouring.

Adele is wearing:Eye cream // Face oil // Moisturizer // Face mist // Primer // Foundation in Bisque Medium // Concealer in Wake-Up Call // Contour in Dream Filter 20 // Brow gel // Brow pencil in Taupe and Ashbrown // Eyeshadow in Volver // Eyeshadow in The Lolita // Liquid liner in Blacquer // Mascara in Noir // Lipstick in Slow Burn // Lip colour in Fawn Over Me

Tinashe

What I like: Tinashe actually had my favourite look of the night, thanks to her gorgeous skin and very on-trend pink eyeshadow. I think it's something about the warmth of her complexion, and the faint freckles, contrasted against the unexpected wash of 360-degree colour. The lashes are falsies, yes, but they're fluffy, and she “grounded” the pink with darkened waterlines. Brows are soft and lips got a slick of nude gloss. Her hair is in a low knot at the back and a soft wave at the front. What I'd change: Nothing. (Beauty-wise, that is. No comment on the dress!)

Lea Michele

What I like: More pink eyeshadow! I love seeing Lea in fresher, more experimental makeup, unlike many of her dated, contoured, lash-heavy looks of the past. Her makeup artist purposely omitted even mascara here, so the colour would pop. Again, the application is all the way around the eyes, and she mixed things up by pairing it with a warmer-toned coral lipstick. Strong brows frame her face (her brows look perfect here), and sleek, off-the-face hair keeps the focus on the statement makeup. What I'd change: The contour is too strong.

Lea is wearing: Eye serum // Serum // Eyeshadow in Émerveillé // Eyeshadow in Tissé Cambon // Lip balm

Solange Knowles

What I like: Solange's unexpectedly cool liquid liner placement. The two diagonal strokes are clearly runway-inspired, but she wears them well—with nude makeup, beautiful brows and long lashes. (I think the lashes work here because everything else is so bare.) Her curls are piled high for dramatic effect. What I'd change: Nothing.

Solange is wearing:Liquid liner in Black

Paris Jackson

What I like: Paris' bright eyes, nude makeup and shaggy blonde bob. (There's actually a little French braid on the other side.) It's funny, she's only started to be in the public eye more prominently since turning 18 last year, but she already nailed her beauty look—that's pop royalty for you. I like that her brows are darker, and she's only wearing mascara on the upper lashes; everything else is matte and neutral. She resembles Miley Cyrus a bit, no? What I'd change: The overlining of her upper lip isn't working.

Paris is wearing:Tinted moisturizer // Concealer // Powder // Contour and highlighter in Golden Sands // Mascara in Extreme Black // Brow pencil in Dark Brown // Lip liner in Innocent // Lipstick in Trendsetter 700

Halsey

What I like: Halsey's fresh skin and subtle strobing. She continues to rock this bleached pixie cut with so much confidence. Apparently she does her own makeup! What I'd change: I'm not opposed to false lashes with such a bare-faced look, but this pair is a bit too cray. Also, her lip liner needs blending.

Faith Hill

What I like: Faith's matte red lipstick. Sometimes, matchy-matchy just works! I'm sure there's some Botox involved, but her skin looks really great (she is 49 now). What I'd change: The mermaid waves feel dated. Wouldn't she look great with collarbone-length hair, and a more brushed-out texture? There's a mismatch on the lashes because the false ones are nice and soft, but her own set are chunky.

Katharine McPhee

What I like: I thought Katharine's look was going to be boring, but when you get close-up, it's all in the details. Once more, we're seeing pink eyeshadow—a wonderful sparkly pink that picks up on the sequins of her dress. She also did an impressive cat eye, for which her eyes are the perfect shape. Lips are matte pink, and I love the sleek, side-parted updo. What I'd change: Nothing.

Kat Graham

What I like: Okay, Naomi did it better, but I still like that Kat tried the red glitter lip look. Where else are you going to wear such a thing if not the Grammys?! She wisely kept her hair neat, straight and off her face. The other details are perhaps problematic, but she's still so pretty! What I'd change: I can live with the contouring, but please no more Kelley Baker brows! Also, these false lashes don't quite have the right fluffiness, and the white eyeliner is too harsh.

Chrissy Teigen

What I like: Chrissy's new, lob-length haircut. I also like the waves. (Are crispy, gelled '80s waves making a comeback?) After a break from the brown makeup, she's back to her beloved neutrals. I do like the smoky eyes here. What I'd change: The false lashes aren't too bad, but the goopy lips need to go!

Chrissy is wearing:Foundation // Concealer // Eyeshadow in Copper Rush // Eyeshadow in Lucky Penny // Eyeshadow in Tahitian Pearl // Lip stain in 23 Copper Blush // Lip liner in 04 Creme de la Creme

Tori Kelly

What I like: Tori's voluminous curls, flipped over in a deep side part. Although her hair is blonde, she was right to keep her eyebrows dark brown, which matches her eyes. I appreciate the restraint on the eye makeup, and the raspberry lipstick is pretty with her green dress. What I'd change: I think Tori should return to a hair colour closer to her natural one, like a warm light to medium brown. (This throwback shot is what I'm talking about.) It's not that the blonde is bad, but a rich brunette would really make her complexion sing.

Tori is wearing:Mousse

Kelsea Ballerini

What I like: The metallic rosy liner bringing light to Kelsea's eyes. I really like this idea for blondes; with the muted pinky lips, it's lovely and understated. I guess we can also be thankful that she's not sporting obvious curling iron waves. What I'd change: I strongly dislike this pair of false lashes—they look tacky—and the skin finish seems unnecessarily heavy.

Demi Lovato

What I like: Even though she covers most of it up, I still think Demi has great skin. The warm colour palette is flattering on her, and the gold liner around her eyes is a cool touch. I guess she got extensions put in; at least she's got some great texture going on. What I'd change: It's just so incredibly heavy. If you're going to wear this much eyeshadow, then keep the lips bare—not all gooped up a la JLo. The brows don't need to be this angular, and the contour/blush is exaggerating her pores.

Demi is wearing: Toner // Serum // Moisturizer // Lip and eye cream // Foundation in 6.5 and 8 // Corrector in 2 Orange // Illuminator in No. 10 and No. 6 // Highlighter // Contour/bronzer in 100 // Blush in 305 Dolci // Eyeshadow in Gold Blitz // Eyeshadow in 5 and 7 // Eyeshadow in Mirage // Mascara // Eyeliner in Black // Eyeliner in 1 Jet Black and 2 Wenge Wood // Brow pencil in 2 // Lip balm // Lipstick in Beige 102 // Lip liner in 2 // Lip gloss in 202 Nude Night

Katy Perry

What I like: I don't like it as much as brunette, but Katy does pull off being blonde. (Although I'm not so sure she dyed it… if you look at the hairline, you can see that this is a wig.) Makeup-wise, she went for the pink eyeshadow trend, quelle surprise. I like it with the raspberry lipstick (although not the application!). What I'd change: I really, REALLY wish she'd soften the circumference of her lips; the obvious ring of liner makes her look incredibly harsh. I think that would go far to help balance out the heavy lashes. Her skin finish is heavy in the mid-face, as per usual.

Katy is wearing: Eyeshadow and highlighter in Tiger Rose // Eyeliner in Kitty Whispurr // Mascara in Very Black // Brow powder in Soft Brown // Brow mascara // Lipstick in Reddy To Pounce // Lipstick in Crimson Cat

Kristin Cavallari

What I like: Kristin's natural skin texture. Her brow fans are also very good! The smoked-out eyes, with an emphasis on the lower lash line, are fine. What I'd change: I think it's the hair that lets this down; it looks like she could be off to the gym! Also, with the black dress, the neutral makeup feels too safe and boring.

Taraji P. Henson

What I like: Taraji's heart-shaped face. We've never seen it in its full glory! I like seeing so much of her hair back, for once, and the lighter touch on the eyes. As a result, we get to focus more on her nice skin. What I'd change: The lipstick is too pale, dry and lifeless. Her face would have so much more life if she chose a vibrant magenta, or even a fresh clear gloss.

Daya

What I like: I like the idea of a cat eye on Daya. She has good, thick brows, and was smart to keep her lips muted. What I'd change: Unfortunately, the liner and lashes are just too exaggerated, especially on such a young person (she's only 18). I don't like the smudginess on the lower lash line, either; it looks messy. Her foundation is making her complexion very sallow.

Andra Day

What I like: Andra's dabbed-on gold lipstick (not that it matches anything else). I also don't mind the exaggerated cat eyes on her—she has gorgeous eyes. Clearly, she's picking up where the old Gaga left off with this flower-power bouffant. What I'd change: Her brows were drawn higher than their actual spot, and all the remaining hairs look messy. Her eyeshadow could be subtler, and doesn't seem properly blended. I don't think she needed to go so heavy under the eyes.

Maren Morris

What I like: Maren's hair colour is pretty, and her skin has a nice glow. What I'd change: The too-long extensions are the least of my worries! The false lashes (top AND bottom) are frightening me, and the white waterlines add to the tacky effect. Something's up with her top lip… those bubbles look like injections gone wrong.

Charli XCX

What I like: It's been a long time, but Charli still knows how to work a smoky eye. These are a very tasteful set of false lashes, and she has a great set of brows. What I'd change: Remember when we were all blown away by her beautiful skin? I hope she's okay health-wise; it's not just the bumpy texture but the dryness and loss of radiance that concerns me. The blush/contour is too dark, and her eyeliner needs tidying up along the lower lash lines.

Charli is wearing:Face mask // Face oil // Eye cream // Moisturizer // Foundation in Soft Sand // Concealer in Y31 // Contour // Blush in 420 // Highlighter in 3 Gold Champagne // Powder // Setting spray // Brow pencil in Taupe // Eyeshadow in Mona Lisa // Lip balm (on lips and eyelids) // False lashes in Fusion // Mascara in Black // Eyeliner in Aqua XL M-10 // Lip liner in 4C Chestnut // Lipstick in C105

Rose McGowan

What I like: Okay, I'll say something nice. Rose's lashes do look good, and the metallic copper lip colour is kind of cool… if only she'd worn it with completely different hair and makeup. What I'd change: Alright, this is by far the craziest look we've seen so far in 2023—maybe even the past few years! I'm not sure what's up with the gold-leaf hair (or the sex worker outfit), but even the makeup alone is unfortunate. The '80s plum blush as contour, and the heavy, poorly blended eyeshadow sap all the colour out of her skin, actually making her look quite unwell. Clearly, her brows are the victims of '90s over-plucking, but they could be treated a lot more softly—a lighter colour and feathery strokes to help fake a better shape.
