Kirsten Dunst Has the Perfect Rosy Makeup Look for Pale Skin
Kirsten Dunst looked SO lovely at the recent NYC premiere of her new film, 'The Two Faces of January'. Lovelier than she's looked in a long time, I think. (Just compare this to her most recent appearance on this blog, at the 2014 Met Ball, which was sorta heavy.)
But here, she's all fresh and rosy and glowing—and wearing the shiz outta this white Chanel dress:
White, couture and ankle-length. Those three things don't exactly make a dress easy to wear—and especially not when your skin is already super-pale. But this looks incredible; she's definitely wearing it, instead of the outfit wearing her.
I think a lot of that has to do with the way she played the makeup. (And hair, too—worn down and sleek, it avoids looking too bridal.) But mostly, it's about the blush. It's pink and it's fairly strong, and we haven't been seeing a lot of that on celebrities lately (of any skin tone). Just go back to that Met Ball round-up and you'll understand what I mean. Almost everyone was wearing tone-on-tone, nudey/peachy/contoured shades, which could be the reason so many of us felt “meh” about that event.
Let's hope that Kirsten's makeup here marks the return of pink to the red carpet:
So pretty! The strong cheeks automatically brighten her face, bring out her eye colour and stand in for other makeup, so she doesn't need that strong of an eye or lip when the blush is doing the talking. Jet-black upper lashes, soft brows and a gorge mid-tone pink lipstick complete the look.
Pati Dubroff did this makeup, and here's how to copy it:
How To Get Kirsten Dunst's Rosy Makeup Look
1. Prep the skin with cult-favourite Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist.
2. Apply L‣Oréal Paris RevitaLift Miracle Blur Instant Skin Smoother to eliminate shine in the T-zone. Perfect the skin with foundation, and then cover any remaining imperfections with Clé de Peau Concealer in Beige.
3. Apply Flower Beauty Win Some, Rouge Some Créme Blush in Pure Petunia to the cheeks, concentrating the colour on the outer apples and blending well for an airbrushed finish. You'll notice that the blush is a teensy bit warmer than the lip colour, which makes the look more interesting than a straight match.
4. Fill in the brows with Maybelline Define-a-Brow Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Blonde. Next, apply a matte cream shadow on the lid and a matte putty in the crease for definition. Layer the matte bone and taupe shades from the Pati Dubroff Perfect Palette on top to set.
5. With black liquid liner, draw from the centre of the lash line out, extended beyond the outer corner with a flick. On top of the black line, draw another line from the inner corner to the flick using Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in 87 Silver Light. Apply black mascara, concentrating on the outer upper lashes to keep the inner corners bright.
6. Complete the look with Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Radieuse on the lips. (This was limited-edition, so try Seduisante if you can't find it.)
Here's the final look:
