Oscars 2023: The Best Celebrity Beauty Looks at the After-Parties
The Oscars have officially come and gone, but before we say goodbye to another awards season, I've got one more batch of glam to show you… from the after-parties!
There are A LOT of looks to cover here, so I'm going to keep my commentary short and sweet—first impressions only. Let's do this!
Miley Cyrus
Hooray, Miley has long hair again! She looks fab in these soft blonde waves with red lipstick and chunky upper lashes.
Olivia Munn
Olivia should wear these rich raspberry shades more often. I love the bold blush and lipstick with the matching dress. Lovely hair, too.
Olivia is wearing: Lipstick in Palpitante
Phoebe Tonkin
Phoebe's red lips have an amazing stained, matte texture. Perfect with the flushed cheeks, clean eyes and textured lob.
Ana de Armas
Ana's new bangs are super-cute, and I'm glad she lightened up her hair colour (it was too dark here). Her makeup is subtle and pretty.
Olivia Wilde
I like the way Olivia's bob is styled here (versus the last time we saw it). Also into the light lipstick with winged-out shadow and a touch of purple… very ethereal!
Jaime King
I don't know how Jaime manages to make rounded bangs look good, but she does! Maybe it's because her smile is so genuine (even if she could use some Whitestrips).
Gabrielle Union
Gabrielle's big, twisty side bun is so perfect with the bow feature at the back of her dress. I like that she went neutral with the makeup, just emphasizing her lashes.
Amber Valletta
How stunning is Amber?! Anyone with deep-set eyes like hers should try this sparkly shadow look. I like her soft, flipped-over hair as well.
Adriana Lima
This is classic Adriana. The tight, centre-parted updo shows off her perfect features and glowing skin. I especially like the peach lip colour and fluffy lashes.
Adriana is wearing: Primer ‣ Illuminator ‣ Contour ‣ Blush in Light Mauve ‣ Highlighter in Molten Gold ‣ Eyeshadow palette ‣ Mascara ‣ Brow pencil ‣ Brow mascara ‣ Lipstick in Driver
Tracee Ellis Ross
Give me real, natural skin like Tracee's any day over heavy, dry foundation! As always, she looks confident and cool in lined eyes, nude matte lips and a knotty updo.
Salma Hayek
I know many of you didn't like Salma's Oscars look, but I think we can all give this one a thumbs up! I love her thick, brushed-out waves, and softer lip colour. The lashes are super-long, but work because they're fine and soft in texture.
Salma is wearing: Essence ‣ Serum ‣ Moisturizer ‣ Primer ‣ Foundation ‣ Concealer in Custard ‣ Blush in Beam ‣ Highlighter in Quartz ‣ Powder in Diffused Light ‣ Eyeshadow in Slip ‣ Eyeliner in Prunella ‣ Mascara ‣ Brow pencil in Soft Brown ‣ Brow mascara in Brown
Halston Sage
Halston looks so soft and pretty. I love her loose waves, and her skin is super-flawless. I think the false lashes are okay here because of her eye shape, and the fact that the rest of the makeup is so simple.
Joan Smalls
Joan basically matched her makeup to her dress. She always looks incredible, but I'm not crazy about the greyish lip colour, and I think her lashes could be less stiff/spiky.
Hailee Steinfeld
Hailee pulls off this unforgiving updo well, and I like the orangey lipstick. But I think her skin finish is a bit heavy (especially if you compare to the rest of her body), and she doesn't need to overline her lips so much.
Amy Adams
I always love Amy, and this look is no exception. The peachy tones are great with her skin and hair, and the ponytail is cute and casual. It's also nice to see someone with normal smile lines around her eyes!
Lupita Nyong'o
Lupita kept the same hair as at the Oscars (I imagine that's not quick to take out!). But instead of blue shadow and bronze lips, she went for purple with metallic red. Always mesmerizing!
Lupita is wearing: Blush in 6 ‣ Blush in Rum Raisin ‣ Highlighter ‣ Lip balm
Emma Roberts
Emma's bob is cute, and the gold eyeshadow is nice… but something is seriously off with this contouring! Her skin tone also looks “off” from the eyes down, I think from a too-yellow foundation.
Emma is wearing: Moisturizer ‣ Tinted moisturizer ‣ Primer ‣ Foundation in 4 Fair and 7 Medium ‣ Skin booster (as highlighter) ‣ Highlighter ‣ Powder in 2 Medium ‣ Eyeshadow in Bette ‣ Eyeshadow in Jean ‣ Eyeliner in Audrey ‣ Highlighter (at inner corners of eyes) ‣ Mascara in Glossy Black ‣ Brow pencil in Rita ‣ Brow mascara in Clear ‣ Lip liner in Pillow Talk ‣ Lipstick in The Duchess ‣ Lipstick in Pillow Talk
Hailey Baldwin
Sometimes, an exaggerated cat eye just WORKS, and Hailey is proving that here. Somehow, it looks fun (not juvenile) with the pink lips and half-up hair.
Jasmine Tookes
Jasmine's SKIN! If only there wasn't so much coverage on her cheeks—is that “baking”? It's too light, and detracts from the rest of the gorgeousness, including her purple smoky eyes.
Margot Robbie
To switch up her Oscars look, Margot added some glittery gold liner in her lower waterlines. Notice how it *doesn't* match her dress, which is silver.
Margot is wearing: Blush in Rose Écrin ‣ Highlighter in Ivory Gold ‣ Eyeshadow in Titane ‣ Eyeliner in Clair ‣ Mascara in Noir ‣ Brow pencil in Brun Clair ‣ Lip colour in Tender Rose ‣ Lipstick in Cécile ‣ Hair oil ‣ Smoothing lotion ‣ Texturizing spray ‣ Hairspray
Taylor Hill
Taylor's cat eyes are even more dramatic than Hailey's, and she's also doing the '80s blush thing that is having a moment right now. I love it! But she could wear ANYTHING and look good, so there's that.
Katharine McPhee
Katharine's smoky eyes are super-dark—I'd perhaps think they were TOO dark, if it weren't for the silver shimmer. The lipstick is a bit heavy in texture, but the messy updo was a good call.
Lais Ribeiro
Lais is gorgeous, but her mismatched foundation is overpowering this look! It's wiping out all the dimension in her face.
Emily Ratajkowski
I'm not sure about the undone messy braid, but I do like Emily's makeup. It's all very bare except for the darkened waterlines—a very under-utilized technique!
Ashley Graham
You have to admire the artistry behind Ashley's graphic green eyeshadow. I just wish she paired it with normal eyelashes, softer lips and less of a highlight under her eyes. This is aggressive, no?
Paz Vega
Have I mentioned how much I love Paz's voluminous short haircut? Yes, I believe I have. Her unique look is accentuated by lived-in smoky eyes and peach lipstick.
Elsa Hosk
Just when I thought I was over Veronica Lake waves… Elsa does them and looks amazing! I just want to play with her hair, like a Barbie.
Eiza González
Eiza's beauty look is basically the same as at the Oscars, except we couldn't see this gold eyeshadow before, and her hair is fluffed out. I'd love to see her grow out or microblade her brow tails.
Eiza is wearing: Mascara in Black
Halle Berry
I love Halle's hair, but must she go so blah with her makeup? I think her foundation has taken the colour out of her face… she needs some coral on her cheeks and/or lips!
Jenna Dewan-Tatum
Jenna really suits a vampy blackened lip, especially with her dramatic blunt bob. It's just looking heavy along with the foundation. But her lashes are good!
Jenna is wearing: Lipstick in Stay the Night
Kat Graham
This is way more natural than Kat's makeup in the past. Her lashes are soft, and she stuck to a monochromatic eye. The bob is also adorable. But she could improve her skin finish… and I don't love the green contacts!
Zendaya
Zendaya stuck to the same formula here as her Oscars look. I think she just lightened up her eyeshadow and added gold accents to her top knot.
Zendaya is wearing: Moisturizer ‣ Tinted moisturizer ‣ Skin booster (mixed with foundation and as highlighter) ‣ Foundation in 9 Dark ‣ Contour in Medium to Dark ‣ Highlighter ‣ Concealer in 6 Medium ‣ Powder in 3 Dark ‣ Eyeshadow in The Dolce Vita ‣ Mascara in Glossy Black ‣ Brow pencil in Naomi ‣ Brow mascara in Clear ‣ Lip gloss in Hall of Fame
Gal Gadot
Gal's face always looks so FRESH, you know? She swapped the berry lipstick she wore to the Oscars for this light peach, and let down her hair. What a stunning woman.
Gal is wearing: Foundation in Warm Golden ‣ Powder in Light/Medium ‣ Highlighter in Sunlit Dream ‣ Eyeshadow in creme Brûlée ‣ Eyeshadow in Caramel ‣ Eyeliner in Onyx ‣ Mascara in Black
Alessandra Ambrosio
I like Alessandra's cat eyes, soft lashes and natural brows… but I don't like the shading around her lips! Instead of nudes, I prefer these pinks on her.
Zoey Deutch
I'm not sure if Zoey's Oscars makeup was intensified, with more brown tones, or if it's just the different lighting. Either way, the eyeshadow blending is amazing (the lips, not so much).
Zoey is wearing: Essence ‣ Serum ‣ Foundation ‣ Powder ‣ Bronzer in Light ‣ Blush in Perfect Peach ‣ Eyeshadow in Pourpre Profond ‣ Eyeshadow in Marron ‣ Eyeshadow in Lilas d'Or ‣ Eyeliner in Eros ‣ Brow pencil in Brun Profond ‣ Brow mascara in Brun ‣ Mascara in Character ‣ Lip colour in Burning Berry
Amanda Seyfried
Amanda played it a bit too safe, I think, but she still looks pretty in simple waves and smoky eyes. It looks like her waterline eyeliner might be making her eyes irritated!
Emma Stone
Gone is Emma's pink “power blush” and eyeshadow from the Oscars, replaced by more wearable shades of copper, peach and navy. Tucking her hair behind both ears is an easy way to change up the look.
Emma is wearing: Eye cream ‣ Moisturizer (mixed with foundation) ‣ Foundation ‣ Lip balm ‣ Hair oil ‣ Volumizing spray
Kerry Washington
Speaking of the 1980s, Kerry decided to go there with her curly updo, coral lipstick and pink sequins! Unfortunately, it feels dated with the heavy foundation and lashes.
Abigail Spencer
I like Abigail's teased, messy ponytail (tied with a velvet ribbon at the back). The classic cat eyes and pink lips look modern and pretty.
Kate Upton
I'm not sure what's going on with the updo, but I love Kate's lived-in makeup. I think her brows were handled well, because they're darkened but still soft at the edges.
Kate is wearing: Skin booster ‣ Eyeshadow in Black Diamonds ‣ Eyeshadow in The Rock Chick ‣ Lipstick in Secret Salma
Sofia Vergara
I'm so sad Sofia is growing out her bangs! I don't mind this bright, cherry-red lipstick, but I'm not crazy about the lashes, and I think she could benefit from a brow gel.
Sofia is wearing: Skin booster ‣ Eyeshadow palette in Beauty Glow ‣ Eyeliner in Panther ‣ Lip liner in Kiss 'N' Tell ‣ Lipstick in Red Carpet Red
Busy Philipps
Busy's skin looks really beautiful, and this is the kind of lash texture I like. But her hair is too brassy blonde—the colour was better here.
Janelle Monáe
The heart stickers are cute, but it's such a LEWK. I miss Janelle's style from last year's Critics' Choice Awards—it was less contrived! (With a lighter touch on the skin!)
Nina Dobrev
I'm guessing Nina is over her bob and bangs, since she slicked everything back here. I like the simplicity, but it's missing that “wow” factor. She maybe needs more eye definition, or hair around her face? Also, I really dislike the pointy brow tails.
Nina is wearing: Essence ‣ Serum ‣ Eye cream
Kendall Jenner
OMG, Kendall's lips! They're freshly injected, perhaps to distract us from the jawline acne she's been struggling with (although it's improved a lot since the Globes). Everything else is gorgeous, but I just can't get past her mouth.
Lea Michele
Lea's got a bad case of The Eagle—when your face is lighter than your neck. Still, I like her hair a lot, especially the bangs, along with her lashes and gold eyeshadow.
Jasmine Sanders
This is a lot more makeup than the last time we saw Jasmine, which almost makes her eye colours seem fake (even though it's not!). I like her lob, but the Instagram brows and crazy lashes need to go.
Sarah Hyland
I love that Sarah's a brunette again, and has grown out the shaggy bob. This would be okay without the drawn-on brows and crazy lashes (are there TWO sets of lashes?).
Kate Beckinsale
Celebs never seem to do side buns anymore, so I like seeing one on Kate (although it would be better if the other side wasn't falling out so much). Her colour is beautiful, and the makeup is fine. It's just hard to focus on that when her face is looking increasingly injected!
Madelaine Petsch
Speaking of injections… Madelaine could ease up on her lips! (Why do people aspire to this look?!) The other issue is her brows, which should've been left alone. She has lovely features and colouring—she doesn't need to try this hard at all!
Emma Watson
Oh no! I was giving Emma's short bangs the benefit of the doubt here, but now that we can see the full style, it's just… BAD. Really bad. The makeup is nice (if not a little drab), but there's no possible way to make this haircut look good.
Who had your favourite (and least favourite) after-party beauty look?
