Om Tattoo Art: Welcome to the ultimate Om Tattoo Guide and Gallery! 151 top ranking Om tattoos, artists, and info on where and how to get an om tattoo.

I exist. I know. I am blissful. That is what the three parts of Om (or Aum) represent. The written symbol is a representation of human consciousness (an explanation of which would require charts and graphs, so I’ll let you figure that one out on your own). Om is used in Hinduism and Buddhism, and a common chant in meditation and yoga. Chanting Om is said to unify the chanter with the universe, while slowing the body and calming the mind. It’s understandable, then, that so many people feel a deep connection with this symbol, and why they would choose to tattoo it on their bodies as a daily reminder of inner peace and harmony.

The om symbol in the simplest way – just a nice, solid black tattoo without any frills. This will be the only one of this kind on the list; who wants to look at a bunch of identical tattoos? Let’s take a look at some of the creative and unique om tattoos on the web.

 Negative Space

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

This one might still be fairly simple, but it’s got two really cool things going on: the symbol itself is created with negative space, but then it is given a 3D look with drop shadows. A bit of a mind-bending effect!

Simple, But Special Om Tattoo

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

Here’s another om tattoo that utilizes shadows to create the illusion of dimension. I really like the cursive type style and the placement of this one.

Zen Brushstrokes Om Tattoos

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

While this om tattoo is similar to #1, adding the circle around it, and giving it that look of being painted on really make it stand out.

Tribal Take

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

I almost didn’t realize that this tribal tattoo incorporated the om symbol! It’s so subtle! This is nice work, with super sharp lines – a perfect tribal om for the upper arm.

Hidden Ganesha

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

I feel like I’ve talked about this before, but I’ll go over it again for anyone who missed it. The om symbol is commonly connected with the Hindu deity Ganesha, who is depicted as an elephant. The parts of the om symbol represent parts of an elephant head. This simple tattoo adds just a few elements to bring Ganesha into focus. I love the shading here, it gives this ink some nice depth.

Abstract Strokes

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

This om tattoo is so cool! It also incorporates Ganesha, but I think those symbols that run diagonally across the middle of the tattoo is something written in Sanskrit. I looked to the interwebs for answers when I came across several tattoos with this type of writing. The interwebs told me it was Sanskrit, and everything you read on the interwebs is true, right? Let me know if I am mistaken, though. Anyway, I love this tattoo and its abstract, brushstroke style.

Decorative Om

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

I wanted to call this one tribal, but I don’t know if it really is. It’s kind of like, I don’t know, like fancy lettering? Like calligraphy, maybe? I love the blue shading, though – it totally brings the tattoo to life!

Couple’s Oms

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

What a nice pair of oms! I like that the symbol has been turned into what I’m going to call a medallion. Do you think that the couple that oms together stays together? Check out more couple’s tattoos.

Torn Skin

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

I almost feel like the style of this tattoo is counter to the idea of om, but I like it anyway. The torn/ripped skin style of tattoo fascinates me. I am so impressed by the ones that are well done enough to actually look real. This one did a pretty good job.

Floral Accents

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

This om tattoo took a relatively simple idea and gave it a bit of frill. I like the way the vine curves around the bottom of the om symbol, and the flowers are cute. Notice the tiny bits of that brushstroke look on the edges of the om? Subtle, but it’s there.

11. Extra Flair

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

When I first saw this, I thought the blue part was a rhinestone. Turns out, it’s just a bit of good inking on the artist’s part. I like this tattoo for so many reasons! I’m in love with that deep red color, and the exaggerated swoops. The contrast of the light blue is awesome, and as indicated by my initial reaction to it, done well enough to appear to be some kind of gem. A very nice om tattoo.

Om With Extras

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

I debated on what to call the style of this om tattoo. It’s not really mandala, not really henna. It honestly reminds me most of New Orleans Square at Disneyland. Maybe that’s why I like it so much?

Buddha Om I

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

There are a lot of om tattoos out there with images behind them. I think they look super cool, so I picked out a few of my favorites for you. I like this one because it’s in color – most of the ones I’ve seen have been just black.

14. Buddha Om II

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

This one is great because it actually seems to be like a window to a three dimensional world rather than just a two dimensional image. The shading at the left of the face definitely give it that major depth.

Buddha Om Tattoo III

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

This om tattoo is simpler, and I really like the decorative bits. This particular ink looks kind of blurry, and I’m not sure if that’s because of the camera, or the tattoo itself. And if it is the tattoo, is it intentional?

Buddha Om IV

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

Here we have a nearly identical tattoo to the one above, but with a much sharper and more defined image. There is definitely a lot more attention to detail here, and better contrast between the ink and the skin.

Birth and Om

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

In Buddhism, the turtle represents the rarity and the gift of being born a human being, and as I mentioned earlier, om is a symbol for human existence. After some excruciating research, I believe I have translated the text at the bottom to mean “family.” This is a nice tattoo, and I love that it is basically solid black, and negative space is used to create the om symbol.

Hear Me Om

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

I’m not going to try and translate this one. Regardless of what it says, this is a very nice om tattoo. It’s as if the lion is wearing it as a crown. I am totally in love with the style of this tattoo – I can’t even really describe it, but see how some of the lettering is actually negative space? That’s so cool! It just flows so seamlessly, I had to really look at it to even notice.

Dragon Ball Om

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

I just realized that it seems kind of counter-intuitive to pair a symbol of peace and harmony with a mythical, fire-breathing beast. But that’s okay, I like this om tattoo anyway! Nice colors – does that red pop, or what?

Pair of Butterflies

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

At first glance, I thought this was angel wings, but then I looked a little closer and saw that a pair of butterflies were flanking this om tattoo. My assumption here is that the names and dates are the children of the owner of this ink. I feel like it could be a little lighter in the wings to make the lettering more apparent, but otherwise, I think it’s a nice piece, and very unique.

Watercolor Lotus

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

Gah! This is gorgeous! I am so obsessed with this combination of watercolor and sketch styles! This om tattoo is definitely one of my favorites.

22. Rainbow Om

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

I am so impressed by the blending of rainbow colors in this om tattoo! Very nicely done. I love the way it looks like someone just slapped it on with a paintbrush. It’s extremely simple in that it’s just the om symbol, yet it’s on a whole other level with those colors. Beauty!

Abstract and Om

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

Here is another lotus and om symbol tattoo that just blows my mind. In Buddhism, the lotus flower represents fortune, purity and faithfulness – a fitting partner for the om. I can’t get over the style of this one…I think this guy is pretty unlikely to stumble across someone else with the same tattoo. Totally gorgeous!

Indescribable!

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

I can’t even. This is so cool. I have no more words.

Rainbow Splatters

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

Well, isn’t this cute? It makes me think of sprinkles and frosting, which is always a good thing. Simple and classy, yet whimsical. I like it.

Painted

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

I’m a big fan of tattoos that look like they’ve been painted on, and while I like this one, it’s not my favorite. I think the background colors could have been blended a bit better. The om looks good, though.

Mandala Style A

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

The mandala represents the universe, and the om represents the self, so it makes perfect sense to tattoo an om in the center of a mandala. This one is a fairly simple example, with just basic detail.

Mandala Style B

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

This mandala/om tattoo combo is more intricate, and a bit more impressive than the previous design. I am really into the way the om symbol appears to be raised – that’s excellent shading there!

Flowers and Vines

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

I tried to figure out what kind of flowers those are, but I had no luck. I wanted to make a reference to their probable meaning. Oh well. It’s cute, though, huh?

Sanskrit with Ganesha

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

I’m totally not going to attempt to translate this one. I do have some questions about those two red, uh, balloons(?) at the top though…thoughts?

Tribal Style Trident

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

Apparently, this trident is actually called a trishula, and has many different meanings in many different Asian regions. It seems that across the board, in general, the three prongs stand for past, present and future. So pair that with an om, and it sounds like a right proper spiritual tattoo.

Ornate Om Tattoo

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

I am digging the pastels in this om tattoo! I love the ornate design and the rays of baby blue in the center circle. It’s pretty, it’s feminine, it’s lovely!

Interpretive Ganesha

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

Have I talked about how the om symbol is said to represent the parts of Ganesha? Well, yeah…that’s what they’ve done here. It’s a touch creepy, but I like it. I’m really enjoying the red touches.

Neck Om

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

Here we have another om and trident combo. This trident appears to have some sort of scarf flowing from it. I don’t know what the deal is with that. Honestly, this isn’t one of my favorites, but it was different than others I’d seen…I can always appreciate creativity even if I don’t love the execution.

Om Leaf Tattoo

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

I’m not a huge fan of this one, either, but it was so unusual! You’ve got your om tattoo, surrounded by a lotus flower, then, a leaf. It’s the only one I’ve seen like it! I do really like this green color, though.

Floral and Lace

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

So pretty! This is a very unique and creative design, and I am in love with it. I love the magenta color!! Swirls and leaves and petals, oh my! So, yeah. I like it.

Side Om with Flowers

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

That’s a LOT of black ink! This is the mother of all om tattoos. I’m enjoying the colors of the lotus at the bottom, and you really can’t go wrong with some cherry blossoms. I love how they weave around the om symbol. Overall, very impressive.

Enormous Om

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

Okay. Wait. Maybe THIS is the mother of all om tattoos? This is pretty damn cool. We’ve got this giant, brushstroke om symbol with what appears to be a trident over there on the right…this is an impressive piece of work to be sure. I am extremely impressed by the consistency of the paintbrush style in the whole symbol. This ink was done by a very talented artist! I’m blown away that this was done with a tattoo gun.

Tree of Om Tattoo

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

The tree of life is a pervasive symbol all over the world, but the general consensus among religions is that it represents the connection of all living things. Totally fitting to pair it with an om tattoo. This one is really nicely done.

Red Om

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

Love, love, LOVE the red in this om tattoo!! The red, and the addition of the trident make it a little devilish, but since the devil has nothing to do with om, it doesn’t really matter, does it?

Tie-Dyed Tattoo

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

Perfect for the peace loving hippies out there! Not only did this girl wear a tie-dyed sweatshirt, but she tie-dyed her om tattoo! I like it.

Cleavage Om

Om Tattoo Designs - 151 Best Designs and Om Tattoo Artists

I saved the cleavage shot for last. You’re welcome, boys. This is a really cool tattoo. I’m sure you’ve figured out by now that I adore watercolor, but I especially like the way the background of the om symbol matches her shirt. I wonder if that was intentional?
